Keywords

A word on the first line sets what a note does: math, list, sum, avg, count, timer or code. Triggers are editable in Settings.

Updated for iOS 1.65

Keywords

Design Intent: A note declares what it is on its first line. One word turns a scratchpad into a calculator, a checklist or a timer — no mode switch to find.

How keywords work

  • Type a keyword on the first line of a note and press Return. The rest of the note follows that keyword's rules.
  • math — calculations, variables and conversions. list — every line is a checklist item. sum, avg, count — a running total, average or count of what is in the note. timer — a countdown or pomodoro. code — syntax highlighting.
  • The Keywords quickbar button lists them with a one-line description and puts the one you tap on the first line.

Triggers

  • Each keyword answers to one or more triggers — avg and average, say. Edit them in Settings › Editor › Keyword Triggers; separate triggers with commas. The main trigger is the one autocompletion offers.
  • The Check Tag (/x by default) marks a list item checked when typed at the end of the line.
  • Keywords can be turned off entirely with Enable keywords.
