Antinote for iPhone and iPad
Everything the iPhone and iPad app does, one page per topic. Notes sync with the Mac app through iCloud, but the two apps are built differently — on iOS everything starts at the orb and the quickbar above the keyboard. The Mac manual covers the desktop app.
Basics
Getting started Antinote on iPhone and iPad is a stack of notes: the newest is on top, swipe right for older ones, swipe left past the newest to start a new one, and everything else starts at the orb at the bottom of the screen.Navigation Swipe left and right to move through the note stack, pull past the top or bottom for a new note or the latest one, and reorder the stack from Search. The orb The orb at the bottom of the screen opens the menu: Search, Latest, actions on this note (Share, Lock, Read-Only, Archive, Read aloud, Widget, Delete) and new notes from the clipboard, an image, the camera or audio.Slotted notes Nine permanent notes named after planets that never auto-delete. Switch to them from the orb or a gesture, and jump between them on the planet bar.Gestures Pull past the top or bottom, two-finger tap and swipe on the note, swipe or hold the orb — each gesture runs an action you choose in Settings › Gestures. The quickbar The bar above the keyboard holds the buttons you choose. Add, reorder and remove them, keep several quickbars, and let the Math and Lists bars switch in automatically.Quickbar buttons What each quickbar button does: special keyboards, text capture and dictation, AI transforms, list operations, formatting, quick access, and the text snippets and quick commands you make yourself.
Writing
Special keyboards Antinote swaps the keyboard for the job: a math keyboard with ans, units and variables, a format keyboard, a keywords keyboard, a timer keyboard and a selection wheel.Checkboxes, bullets and numbers Start a line with - [ ], - or 1. and Antinote draws the list. Tap to check, press and hold to reorder, and decide what happens to checked items.Select mode Select mode picks whole lines with a tap or a drag, then copies, cuts, deletes, moves, indents, groups or shuffles them all at once, with its own undo.Markdown and formatting Headers, bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code and code blocks render in place. Apply them from the quickbar or Format keyboard, and clean text on copy and paste.Links URLs collapse to +domain+ with the full address kept underneath. Open, expand or shrink a link from the bar that appears when the cursor is on it.Keyboard shortcuts Every ⌘ command for a hardware keyboard on iPad, and the ⌘⇧ quick actions you can rebind in Settings › Keyboard shortcuts.
Keywords
Keywords A word on the first line sets what a note does: math, list, sum, avg, count, timer or code. Triggers are editable in Settings.List Type list on the first line and every line becomes a checklist item. Headings and comments stay as they are.Math Lines ending in = are calculated in place. Define variables with name: value, use ans for the previous answer, and convert units and currencies.Sum, Average and Count sum adds every number in the note, avg averages them, and count reports lines, words and characters — all live, as you type.Timer Type timer 5 for a countdown or timer 25 5 for a pomodoro, or use the Timer keyboard and widgets. A full-screen alert and a no-peek streak when it ends.Code The code keyword syntax-highlights a note; backticks and the Code block button fence code inside an ordinary note.
Extras
Search Search lists the stack newest first and filters as you type. Switch between ephemeral and slotted notes, browse the archive with the archived token, and act on results with a swipe.Dictation Dictate into any note with Apple Speech, an on-device Whisper or Parakeet model, or OpenAI and Soniox with your own key. A stop word ends it; magic words turn it into an AI request.Read aloud Antinote reads a note aloud with an Apple voice, the on-device Kokoro voice, or a voice provider you connect, and keeps going in the background.Text from photos Capture text with the camera or from a photo, crop to the part you want, and the recognized text lands in the note. Optional AI clean-up.AI features Bring your own key for Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and more, or use Apple Intelligence on device. Polish text, custom prompts and voice requests, with consent before anything is sent.Extensions Type a command like sum(2, 3) and press Return to run a JavaScript extension. Browse and pin commands, import your own, and sync them through iCloud.Widgets Pinned, billboard, to-do, favourites, latest and slotted note widgets, quick actions, search and timers, plus Control Center controls.Shortcuts and Siri App Intents for new notes, dictation, text capture and opening notes, with Siri phrases, for the Shortcuts app and automations.Sharing into Antinote Share text or a link from any app and it is saved straight into a new note, with no compose step.
Notes Management
Locked notes Lock a note behind Face ID. One unlock opens them all, they relock on a timer and on quit, and they stay out of search while locked.Archived notes Archive a note to take it out of the stack without deleting it, and find it again with the archived search token.Read-only notes Mark a note read-only so a stray tap cannot change it; Allow Edits turns it back. The Void Deleted notes go to The Void, where they can be restored or permanently deleted, and from which they are emptied automatically after a time you choose.Auto-delete and new notes Notes you have not touched are deleted after a chosen time, and Antinote can open on a fresh note when you come back after a while.
Sync & Data
iCloud sync Notes and preferences sync end-to-end encrypted through your private iCloud database, with no account. Choose which preference groups travel in What syncs.Backups and restore Antinote keeps rolling backups on the device. Restore one from Settings › Notes; it applies on the next launch.Privacy and network access Every network connection the app can make is listed under Network access and is off until you turn it on. No analytics, no account, consent before any third-party service sees your text.
