Dictation
Dictate into any note with Apple Speech, an on-device Whisper or Parakeet model, or OpenAI and Soniox with your own key. A stop word ends it; magic words turn it into an AI request.

Dictation
Design Intent: Talking is faster than thumbs. Dictation should land in the note as text you would have typed, with the engine and the privacy trade-off your choice.
Starting
- Tap Dictate on the quickbar, choose Audio under New note from in the orb menu, use the Audio Note widget or control, or say "Dictate a note in Antinote" to Siri.
- The first time, a sheet asks how Antinote should hear you: the recommended engine, Use iOS Dictation, or More options. You can change it any time in Settings › Dictation and voice.
- While recording, a bar shows Cancel, Restart and Done. Dictating into an existing note inserts at the cursor; a new note from audio starts with a large recording ring.
- Dictation is part of the Lifetime license.
Engines
- Apple Speech — iOS's own recognition; stays on your phone.
- Local — on-device models you download once: Whisper Small (widest language support) or Parakeet v3 (fastest and most accurate for 25 European languages), each about 500 MB. Manage them under Downloaded Models.
- OpenAI or Soniox — cloud transcription with your own key.
- Custom Vocabulary teaches the engine names it keeps getting wrong.
Clean-up, stop word and magic words
- Clean up transcript runs the transcript through your AI provider for punctuation and filler removal before it lands ("Polishing…").
- The stop word is a phrase you set that ends the dictation when heard. It is caught on-device and never lands in the note.
- The magic words ("hey antinote" by default) turn what follows into an AI request about the note. The answer is written into the note, or spoken if Read answers aloud is on. See AI features.
